Gameloft vừa cho đăng tải trên trang Facebook chính thức của seri game Modern Combat một bức ảnh hé lộ một tựa game bí ẩn. Vì những gì trong bức ảnh là hoàn toàn mới lạ, chưa từng xuất hiện trong các tựa game Modern Combat trước đây, và đó lại là trang Facebook chính thức của seri game Modern Combat, nên bức ảnh đã khiến cho rất nhiều fan nghĩ rằng đó có thể chính là Modern Combat 5.

Trong bức ảnh này, một người lính đang cầm một khẩu súng và bước vào một khu vực có cảnh báo không được xâm phạm ("Warning: No Trespassing"). Tại khu vực đang bị tuyết phủ dày đặc này có một ngôi nhà giống như kiểu nhà kho mà bọn khủng bố sử dụng để giam giữ con tin ở bên trong. Ở phía đằng xa có một cái cửa và một người đang đứng ở đó, có thể là một tên khủng bố.

Hiện tại, chưa có cơ sở chắc chắn để có thể khẳng định đó chính là Modern Combat 5. Đó hoàn toàn có thể chỉ là một trong số rất nhiều art-work mới của Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour mà Gameloft vẫn thường tung ra trên trang Facebook chính thức của seri game Modern Combat. Tuy nhiên, có một chi tiết đáng chú ý, đó là việc bức ảnh này khá trùng khớp với một bức ảnh bị "rò rỉ" trên mạng trước đó được cho là của phần thứ 5 trong seri Modern Combat - vốn xuất hiện trong danh sách các game bị "rò rỉ" của Gameloft cách đây không lâu với tên gọi Modern Combat 5: The Last War - ở chỗ: cũng là một người lính cầm súng chuẩn bị tấn công vào một nhà kho mà ở phía xa là một ngọn núi bị tuyết phủ trắng xóa.

Trong một diễn biến khác, chuyên trang về game Pocketgamer.fr của Pháp vừa tiết lộ một vài thông tin "mật" rất đáng tin cậy mà họ vừa mới có được từ trụ sở Gameloft tại Pháp. Theo đó, Modern Combat 5 đã bắt đầu được phát triển từ khoảng 6 tháng trở lại đây (tức là vào khoảng tháng 9/2012) - cũng khá hợp lý vì vào thời điểm đó, Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour đã gần được hoàn thiện và cũng đã được Gameloft chính thức công bố tại hội chợ Tokyo Game Show 2012 diễn ra tại thủ đô Tokyo, Nhật Bản (từ ngày 20 - 23/09/2012). Nội dung của game cũng nói về một cuộc chiến chống khủng bố. Song, bầu không khí trong game sẽ đậm chất quân sự hơn nữa, tiến gần hơn tới đẳng cấp của các seri FPS lừng danh trên PC như Call of Duty của Activision hay Battlefield của Electronic Arts.

Về đồ họa, Modern Combat 5 đang được nhóm phát triển - vẫn là Gameloft Montreal - phát triển dựa trên nền tảng công nghệ của một game engine hoàn toàn mới, đồng thời vẫn sử dụng Havok Physics Engine giống như trong Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour để nhằm tăng sự chân thật cho các tương tác vật lý trong game. Ngoài ra, giao diện điều khiển của game cũng được thiết kế lại để tạo nên sự khác biệt so với các game FPS thông thường trên iOS và Android. Điều này cũng khá trùng khớp với bức ảnh "rò rỉ" ở trên - với một giao diện điều khiển khá mới lạ.

Một thông tin đáng chú ý nữa, đó là việc Gameloft rất có thể sẽ chọn sự kiện ra mắt một sản phẩm mới của Apple để chính thức công bố Modern Combat 5 - giống như những gì mà Epic Games và Chair Entertainment đã làm với các phiên bản game Infinity Blade, cũng như Electronic Arts và FireMonkey Studios đã làm với Real Racing 3 tại sự kiện ra mắt iPhone 5 vào hôm 12/09/2012. Đó có thể là sự kiện ra mắt iPad 5 vào giữa năm nay, hoặc sự kiện ra mắt iPhone 5S (hoặc iPhone 6) vào cuối năm nay. Như vậy, 2 tựa game "lạ" mà Gameloft sắp đem tới sự kiện Game Developers Conference 2013 (GDC 2013) sắp diễn ra tại thành phố San Francisco, bang California, Mỹ (từ ngày 25 - 29/03/2013 tới) sẽ không có Modern Combat 5, mà rất có thể sẽ là Dungeon Hunter 4 (vừa chính thức công bố) và Asphalt 8: Infinity hoặc Gangstar Vegas: City of Sin (chưa chính thức công bố).
